As it was reported last week, Manny Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KO) will step back into the ring on July 20 to face unbeaten welterweight champion Keith Thurman (29-0, 22 KO), and now they have a venue, the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The fight will be shown on Fox Sports pay-per-view.
Pacquiao is the WBA’s “regular” champion, while Thurman is the “super” champion.
As it stands now, Thurman is the favorite in the fight, and Pacquiao loves it.
“Beautiful. That’s what I want” Pacquiao said. “Just like with Oscar De La Hoya. It’s going to be an added motivation.”
Pacquiao last fought at the MGM Grand in January, beating Adrien Broner over 12 rounds in a Showtime pay-per-view main event. It was his first fight at the MGM Grand since 2016, when he beat Timothy Bradley Jr.
Thurman steppes back into the ring after a two year layoff earlier this year, when he beat Josesito Lopez over twelve rounds. Thurman struggled in the fight, and was hurt in the seventh round, but he was able to collect himself and go the distance. After the fight, Thurman called for a fight with Pacquiao.
Right now, the PPV undercard will have Sergey Lipinets vs John Molina Jr and Yordenis Ugas vs Omar Figueroa Jr.
