Former two division world champion, and boxing analysts, Paulie Malignaggi has remained very vocal about his opponent, UFC veteran Artem Lobov, the MMA fan base, and even Lobov’s mother in a recent interview.
Malignaggi vs. Lobov takes place this weekend, on pay-per-view, at BKFC 6, in Tampa, Florida.
Their rivalry, which stems from August of 2017, when Conor McGregor had used Malignaggi as a sparring partner for his scheduled fight against Floyd Mayweather, has only gotten worse.
McGregor and his team allegedly leaked photos and video clips from those sparring sessions.
Malignaggi has long maintained that McGregor and his team had actually edited the photos and footage to make it look as if McGregor dominated those sessions.
Lobov, just happens to be a close friend with and a part of Team McGregor.
During the first promotional media event for the upcoming bout, Malignaggi and Lobov engaged in a war of words that ended with Malignaggi slapping Lobov. A scuffle erupted and both men had to be separated.
The second press conference for the fight picked up where the last one left off. Malignaggi, never one to bite his tongue, again had a heated back and forth with Lobov, which resulted in Malignaggi spitting in Lobov’s face during a heated face off.
Malignaggi has made it clear that he does not regret his actions, and that this rivalry with Lobov has become very personal.
“I don’t regret it because the line was crossed a long time ago,” Malignaggi recently told The Mac Life.
“You can’t take spitting or anything else out of context. This line was crossed two years ago. Once you cross the line, you can’t set a new line.
“Not only do I not regret it, if his mother was at the press conference, I would have spit on her too. There’s no reason to regret anything. I’m ashamed I couldn’t do more. Once you cross that line with me, we can just go.”
When asked about how difficult it was to make this fight happen, Malignaggi responded as only he could.
“I think of it like, thank god that this fan base in MMA is so f***ing stupid that they actually have made this possible,” Malignaggi told MMA Fighting.
“A fight this easy is possible in a main event situation. That’s how I look at it. I look at it in a thankful way. From that perspective I say yeah, I can’t believe I’m here. I’ve been in the ring with top fighters, main events inside stadiums and the biggest arenas in the world. I’ve been announced as a world champion. Believe me, it all goes through my mind. And now, I’m fighting this guy, who I don’t think has ever fought a guy who’s been a world champion, let alone fight for a title.
“So I catch myself and say I can only be thankful. There’s no way realistically possible to have a fight this easy against a bum of this level unless there is a fan base this stupid.”
The two fighters will finally get it on this Saturday night in the main event of BKFC 6 in Tampa, Florida.
