According to Eddie Hearn, the reason for the delay in announcing Anthony Joshua’s rematch with Andy Ruiz Jr is because neither side can agree on a venue.
Back on June 1st, Andy Ruiz Jr shocked the world by knocking out the previously undefeated heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in the seventh-round of their fight. Ruiz was a late replacement for Jarrell Miller after he failed three separate drug tests .
Ruiz was aggressive from the start and dropped Joshua four times before the fight was stopped. The victory sent shockwaves throughout the boxing world.
The rematch between Joshua and Ruiz is scheduled for November or December and according to TMZ, the new Heavyweight Champion is looking to call the shots.
“I want to the rematch to be in Mexico or New York City again, Las Vegas or here at the Staples Center,” Ruiz said.
“It doesn’t matter (if Joshua doesn’t agree) because I’m the champion, I call the shots. We’re the A-Side now,” Ruiz said.
When asked of he’s spoken to Joshua since their fight he responded, “I haven’t talked to him, but I’m pretty sure he’s training hard for the rematch. And so am I.”
