Dana White Wants To Have Zuffa Boxing Up And Running By October

By Mark Elezaj

UFC president Dana White has mentioned that he is looking to jump into the boxing world with a promotion tied to Zuffa, the parent company of the UFC under current owners Endeavor.

White has been interested in starting the boxing promotion since the UFC worked with Showtime to make the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor cross-sport fight back in August 2017. The fight between the biggest stars in both sports generated huge numbers at the gate and on pay-per-view buys.

White has never been one to bite his tongue, and has expressed his opinions with the issues he’s seen in the sport of boxing.

“I’m going to break the model and rebuild it,” White told MMA Junkie. “The model is broken, we all know it. The model is broken, it needs to be fixed, and we’ll see if I’m the guy to do it. Everybody wants to work with us. Everybody wants to be a part of it, everybody was more excited and open minded than I expected, and I’m feeling pretty optimistic.”

White plans on using a more UFC styled model for Zuffa Boxing, which now has a targeted launch date later this year. He said that he’s already hired someone to run the boxing side of the promotion and they are currently in the process of building offices for the company.

“I’ve hired a guy to come in and run the boxing side,” White said to MMA Fighting.

“Actually over here on the other side of my office, construction is going on, we’re building offices and a war room and all the things that we’re going to need for this thing to start running in October.

“I’m hoping to have Zuffa Boxing fully functional and running by October.”

Another part of White’s plan for Zuffa Boxing is the completion of the new UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

The UFC Apex is a massive facility which includes an arena for live events, and is where the Contender Series takes place. The Alex is also the location for the upcoming relaunch for “The Ultimate Fighter” reality show.

White has not made any announcements regarding the fighters that will be signed to Zuffa Boxing, or any mention of a broadcast partner yet, but it’s very possible that Zuffa Boxing will air exclusively on UFC Fight Pass.

October is only a few months away, we are patiently waiting to see what Zuffa boxing can bring to the sport Mr. White.
