Patrick Day In A Coma After Knockout Loss

By Mark Elezaj

Junior Middleweight Patrick Day remains in a coma today after undergoing emergency brain surgery following a brutal 10th round knockout against Charles Conwell last night.

Day, who was knocked down twice by Conwell, took a big overhand to the temple followed by a left to the jaw which left him out on his feet. Day’s head bounced off the canvas hard, leaving the fighter motionless with his eyes open. Medical staff immediately began to work on Day, trying to revive him.

Day was still unconscious when he was taken from the ring in a stretcher and placed inside an ambulance outside the arena.

It was reported that Day suffered a seizure in the ambulance and needed a breathing tube as soon as he arrived at the hospital.

Per ESPN, it was reported that Day needed emergency brain surgery and went into a coma, but did not state whether it was induced by the doctors or not.

Following the situation in the ring, Day’s promoter Lou DiBella asked for prayers on Twitter.

“Please pray for Patrick Day,” he wrote. “Please. Such a good person.”

Charles Conwell also asked the public to keep Day in their prayers. “Praying for you,” “Keep fighting!”
