Los Angeles – The spectacle that was Ksi Vs. Logan Paul 2 has come and gone, leaving behind mixed emotions between boxing and YouTube fans.
Some criticized the fight, saying that it was a joke, and that it was bad for boxing, while others said that Ksi and Paul filled an arena with people that had never seen a boxing match before.
Ksi and Paul faced each other last summer as amateurs in England, with the fight being ruled a majority draw. This time around, KSI defeated Paul by split decision, with two judges scoring the fight for Ksi 57-54 and 56-55, while the third judge had it 56-55 for Paul.
Eddie Hearn has revealed that the rematch did more pay-per-views in the UK than did Anthony Joshua’s vs. Andy Ruiz Jr.
“The first fight did 1.2million pay-per-view buys globally,” Hearn told Sirius XM’s Fight Nation.
The first fight between KSI and Paul generated an estimated live gate of over £2.7million ($3.5million) from ticket sales.
“This was much, much bigger this time around.
“It’s the biggest pay-per-view in the UK of the year so far. That includes the first Joshua-Ruiz Jr fight from America. This fight was cheaper, was half the price of that.
“I believe DAZN will announce some numbers this week but I understand it was the most-viewed fight on DAZN so far.”
The card also featured world champions Devin Haney and Billy Joe Saunders, but according to Hearn, the YouTube stars stole the show.
“It was a big subscription driver as well,” said Hearn.
“It wasn’t just those two key territories, it was all those other little territories. “When we look at the breakdown on Fite TV, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Eastern Europe, Africa – it was everywhere.
“You don’t realise the audience these guys have. They brought our sport to reach new ground and reach new territories, new demographics and new markets.”
“The crazy thing about this sport is, we wanted to bring in professional boxing with this circus, if you like.
“We wanted to showcase to this audience what’s great about the sport, and those guys – KSI and Logan Paul – ended up showcasing it.
“The Devin Haney fight was great. Billy Joe Saunders came back from behind to win by knockout, but that fight [KSI and Paul] was everything that’s great about boxing, and we ended up seeing that from two YouTubers.
“Everyone gave them stick from the boxing community, but now you have to give them respect. I thought it was absolutely brilliant.”
