Adrien Broner, who hasn’t fought since losing a 12 round unanimous decision to Manny Pacquiao back in January 2019, has responded back to WBC lightweight champion Devin Haney after being called out on social media for a possible fight at catchweight.
It all started when Haney posted a photo of himself and Broner in his Instagram account, suggesting a catchweight fight between them.
“How many people would watch us fight at a catch weight? 😈 #BronerHaney #TheDream”
Broner responded to Haney a few hours later via Instagram,
Broner went on and sent Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn a DM saying that for $20 million he would not only drop down to 135 and fight Haney, but he would also beat him.
Hearn replied to Broner’s DM via Instagram saying,
“Forget the $20 and you aren’t making 135, but if you want to talk, (Haney) said name your weight, he is ready to go!”
Devin Haney took to social media to respond to Adrien ‘The Problem’ Broner’s demand of $20 million.
“20 MILLION??? Come on big bro don’t price yourself out! 😂😂😂 @adrienbroner #HaneyBroner #CatchWeight2020 #TheDream.”
Haney (24-0, 15 KO) who won the interim WBC lightweight title last September, is currently out of action due to shoulder surgery.
Broner (33-4-1, 24 KO) has won world titles in four weight divisions, hasn’t won a fight since 2017, going 0-2-1 in his last three fights.
As far as Broner saying that he can make 135, I do not see it happening since he hasn’t made that weight since 2013.
Will this fight happen?
Hearn may need to seriously think about rejecting Broner’s challenge. Haney needs a name like Broner on his resume, being that he has had no luck in getting fights against guys like Vasiliy Lomachenko, Ryan Garcia, Teofimo Lopez and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis.
