Following his unanimous decision victory over Jessie Vargas Saturday night, Mikey Garcia spoke about the possibility of facing Manny Pacquiao in the near future, if he can not secure a rematch against Errol Spence, who currently holds the WBC and IBF welterweight titles..
“I have great options,” he told DAZN.
“I’m ready to get back in with the best, I would love to get an opportunity to fight Manny Pacquiao, I want a rematch against Errol Spence.
“It would be a tremendous fight, I’m a little bit better now at this weight class.”
“I would love to get in the ring with Manny” Garcia said.
“You know, it’s a fight that’s been mentioned and talked about for several years. And now that I have a win in the welterweight division, people can actually consider me a viable contender. And it’s been talked about for several years, so with this victory, it’s more accessible. And I would love to fight Manny Pacquiao. He’s a living legend. I would love to share that ring with him.”
“He’s a living legend. It would be tremendous, it would be a great thing for my legacy to get in the ring with an all-time great like Manny. It’s not very often that we get an opportunity to possible fight an all-time great, so in order for me to get in that ring with Manny would be just amazing. And I think I can definitely show everybody that even though he looked great, I can take him out and show that I’m just as great. But I need that opportunity, I need to get in the ring with him.
“I’m willing to fight him anywhere. Every ring is four ropes and four corners. It doesn’t matter where it’s hosted, you know. If it happens to go to Saudi, we just gotta get there early in time to get acclimated and adjusted to the time but I think inside of that ring it doesn’t matter where the fight is at. I’m ready to go anywhere.”
At the post-fight presser, promoter Eddie Hearn said that a Garcia vs. Pacquiao fight is one he will get busy working on in the coming weeks.
“I want to do the Manny Pacquiao fight. I’m going to get on that now,
“As I said in the presser, ‘Me and Mikey, we’re kind of dating. We’re not in a confirmed relationship. It’s expensive but we work really well together.‘ I’ve got an option to promote his next fight, and I would like to do that against Manny Pacquiao,” said Hearn.
